Rep. Ron Estes of Kansas cast his vote in favor of the Rescissions Act of 2025, aligning with House Republicans to approve the legislation aimed at cutting $9.4 billion in previously allocated funding. The bill passed narrowly with a vote count of 214 to 212.
Rep. Estes expressed concerns about government spending, stating, "The wasteful, fraudulent and abusive spending of taxpayer dollars by the federal bureaucracy, coupled with the over $36 trillion national debt, is placing a disastrous economic burden on the American people and future generations." He further emphasized that he supported the rescissions package as it aims to curb what he described as reckless government expenditure not aligned with national values.
"Kansans deserve a government that is a good steward of their hard-earned dollars," Estes added, highlighting his belief that the legislation marks progress toward improving America's fiscal health.
Rescissions refer to presidential requests sent to Congress for reducing wasteful funds under the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. Such legislation requires only a simple majority in both houses of Congress for approval.
