Rep. Ron Estes of Kansas has cast his vote in favor of a Continuing Resolution (CR) aimed at keeping the government operational while extending provisions for farmers and providing disaster relief nationwide. The resolution, which closely mirrors one he supported the previous day, passed with a vote of 366-34.
"This week is a reminder that the appropriations and funding process in D.C. is broken – while the House made progress this year by passing five of 12 appropriations bills, the Democrat-led Senate passed none, leading us once again into government-wide Christmastime funding gridlock," Rep. Estes stated.
The congressman criticized the reliance on CRs as a method to manage national affairs but acknowledged that this particular bill supports Kansas farmers. He expressed disapproval of an earlier extensive legislative proposal, saying it was "far better than the 1,500-plus page Washington wish list that I and many Kansans soundly rejected earlier this week."
Looking ahead to changes in administration, Rep. Estes remarked, "A new administration begins in a month, and today's CR is a stopgap bill that allows us to get to Republican majorities in the House, Senate and White House so that we can address Washington's out-of-control spending."
