Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) highlighted the impact of inflation on Kansans, stating, "For the past three years, Kansans have been paying far too much for essential goods and services." He emphasized the challenges faced by Kansas families and workers due to the rising costs of groceries and gas under what he referred to as "Bidenomics."

According to data from the Joint Economic Committee, the average Kansas household has felt the financial strain of inflation, having spent $23,623 more since January 2021. This translates to an additional $997 per month to purchase the same basket of goods and services as in January 2021. The breakdown of these expenses reveals that Kansans are spending $134 more each month on food, $167 more each month on shelter, $95 more each month on energy, and $313 more each month on transportation.

The Census Division where Kansas is situated has experienced a cumulative inflation rate of 18.9% since January 2021.

The Joint Economic Committee, a bipartisan group consisting of members from the House and Senate, has a mandate to assess economic conditions and propose enhancements to economic policies.
