WICHITA- The Jets hosted a mid week non-conference matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Jets swept the Rangers on the road earlier this season.

Game 1:

Newman was the first to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning. A wild pitch from the Rangers allowed Gianna De Luca-Paape to score. Gianna Navarro came up big for the Jets with a single that put two more runs across the plate, forcing the Rangers to change pitchers. The Jets ended the inning with a 3-0 lead.

NWOSU was able to get their bats going in the 4th inning. They put up 5 runs on 5 hits to take the lead 5-3 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning.

The Jets weren't phased with the Rangers big inning. Newman was able to rally back with 5 of their own runs. An RBI double from Madi Canez hit Laurie Cooke in. Samantha Gutierrez also recorded an RBI in the inning that hit Canez around. An RBI by Tori Waggoner with bases loaded scored 3 runs to take the lead 8-5.

NWOSU answered back in the top of the 7th with one run, but could not complete the comeback. Newman took the first game 8-6.

Waggoner recorded 3 RBIs and Navarro added 2.

Game 2:

The Jets were first to get on the board in the second game with 2 runs in the first inning. A single to left field by Anissa Ramos hit those two runs around.

Megan Walz and the Jets defense held NWOSU scoreless through the first two innings. In the bottom of the second inning a leadoff hit by Waggoner allowed her to get into scoring position, leading to Waggoner scoring on a wild pitch. This run increased the Jets lead to 3-0.

In the 3rd inning, NWOSU finally got on the board making the score 3-1. The Jets answered back to the Rangers run with 2 of their own. A big hit by Gutierrez hit Canez and Cooke around, allowing the Jets to the lead 5-1. In the top of the 5th inning, the Rangers tried to rally but could only record 1 run to make the score 5-2.

Every time the Rangers scored, the Jets were able to answer back. In the bottom of the inning a triple by Cooke put her in scoring position. Canez, the next at bat, hit an RBI allowing Cooke to score. The Jets took the lead 6-2 and would not allow the Rangers another run.

The Jets defense was strong, recording no errors through 7 innings. Walz records her first win of the season with a full game pitched.

Cooke, Canez, and Ramos went 2-3 from the plate. Gutierrez and Ramos recorded 2 RBIs each.

The Jets resume conference play Friday March 24 and March 25. Newman will travel to St. Joseph, MO and Maryville, MO to take on the Griffons and Bearcats.
