Did you know that heat exposure is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States?
There are hundreds of fatalities each year due to heat-related illness, so it is important to know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke to keep you and others safe.
Heat can be taxing on the body and heat-related illnesses can occur after very short periods of exposure if you aren’t prepared.
When you do spend time outside this summer, make sure to:
- Drink lots of fluids, even if you aren’t thirsty. Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks.
- Limit exposure to cooler times of the day, like the morning or evening.
- Seek shade when possible.
