The winners of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition were announced by Congressman Ron Estes's office on April 19 during an event at Mark Arts in Wichita. This annual competition, sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives, showcases the artistic talents of high school students from across each congressional district. Artworks by first-place winners from all districts will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Congressman Estes, an advocate for young artists in Kansas's 4th Congressional District, hosted a local exhibit to honor all participants. The exhibit runs until May 10. This year saw 250 entries from 199 students representing 21 high schools across six counties in the district.

Rep. Estes expressed his admiration for the talent displayed by students, stating, "The students who participated in this year's art competition really impressed the judges, with a number of entries receiving recognition and many more that were also notable." He added, "It will be great to see Melian's pastel piece in the Capitol complex later this year. Melian received recognition last year for her 3rd place pastel, so it's especially exciting to see her continue pursuing her passions and honing her skills. I'm grateful for the parents and teachers who are encouraging these students to enter and improve their craft."

The competition's top honor went to Melian Miller of Wichita High School East, whose pastel work titled "My Hero" earned her a cash prize from Marc and Erin Mason. Second and third place winners received cash prizes from Craig and Dalene Nelson. In addition, twenty-eight other pieces received Honorable Mentions.

The jury for this year's competition included oil painter Jim Clements and photographer Steve Rasmussen. A gallery of the winning pieces can be viewed online at estes.house.gov/art.

The 2025 Congressional Art Competition winners are as follows:

- 1st Place: Melian Miller, “My Hero,” Pastel, Wichita High School East

- 2nd Place: Mei Castro, “My Background,” Colored Pencil, Wichita High School East

- 3rd Place: Allison Meraz, “Keeper of the Sun,” Ink, Wichita Northeast Magnet High School

Honorable Mentions were awarded to artists from various schools for their exceptional work.
