The House of Representatives has voted on a budget resolution which aims to support the America First agenda. The resolution, passed by a narrow vote of 216 to 214, is a significant step towards securing the U.S. border and extending the provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This development is expected to prevent a potential tax hike for Americans in 2026.
Rep. Ron Estes of Kansas played an instrumental role in steering the budget resolution through the House. In his remarks prior to the vote, Estes emphasized the economic benefits of the resolution. "Voting yes means voting for a secure border and economic growth," said Estes. "By voting yes, we’re voting for a path to make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. It means making economic growth provisions like research and development, the small business pass-through, interest deductibility and immediate expensing permanent parts of our tax code. A yes vote prevents the largest tax increase for Americans in history."
The broader agenda behind the resolution echoes President Trump's call for economic and physical security improvements in the nation. Estes noted his recent discussion with the President, stating that the resolution represents a necessary step for achieving the administration's objectives. Despite his advocacy, Estes acknowledged that there is more work to be done beyond this vote.
Rep. Estes also reaffirmed his commitment to fiscal responsibility, expressing his intent to collaborate with the administration to address governmental spending. "As a fiscal hawk who will continue to work with the administration to rein in reckless spending, I’m voting yes for the American people," he concluded.
The resolution's passage marks a milestone in implementing policies that align with the GOP and the administration's priorities.
