House passes resolution honoring Flight 5342 and Black Hawk PAT 25 victims

The House of Representatives has passed a resolution to honor the victims of the collision between American Eagle Flight 5342 and Black Hawk PAT 25 on January 29, 2025. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 67 individuals near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Representative Ron Estes (R-Kansas) introduced the resolution, which received support from over 90 cosponsors nationwide.

Representative Tracey Mann (R-Kansas) expressed condolences: “Today, I join the Kansas delegation in honoring the lives lost in the tragic accident on January 29, 2025.” He emphasized learning from ongoing investigations to prevent future tragedies.

Representative Sharice Davids (D-Kansas) also spoke about aviation safety improvements: “We must continue working to improve aviation safety to ensure no other family faces such unimaginable heartache.”

The resolution acknowledges Wichita, Kansas's significant loss as many victims were residents or connected to this community known for its aviation history. It also commends first responders and emergency personnel for their efforts during rescue and recovery operations.

Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-Missouri) praised those involved in response efforts: “I commend Congressman Estes and his colleagues for leading this resolution to honor those that we lost on that day.”

This bipartisan effort reflects a commitment to remember those who perished while striving for enhanced safety measures in aviation.
