This week, Representative Ron Estes from Kansas published an opinion piece in The Telegraph. In the article, he criticizes the Biden administration's efforts to persuade countries to adopt the OECD Pillar 2 rules before the new administration takes office.

"The Trump administration and Congress will govern with a mandate for change, and it seems obvious that our allies should take note of the coming shifts in Washington," stated Rep. Estes. He expressed concern about ongoing discussions with international representatives regarding the timing and rationale behind these policy changes. "In short, our message to them is clear: don’t do it."

Rep. Estes argued that while President Biden may seek adoption of these rules by the United States, constitutional limitations prevent such actions without House approval. He emphasized that House Republicans would oppose policies perceived as detrimental to American innovation and employment.

He noted that Americans had demonstrated their desire for change through recent elections, where Republicans gained control of both legislative chambers and the presidency. This shift signifies a rejection of current Democratic policies under President Biden.

Rep. Estes highlighted issues within the Pillar 2 agreement, including a global minimum tax and unfavorable treatment of U.S. tax credits, which he believes threaten national economic interests and sovereignty.

As January 20 approaches, when President-elect Trump assumes office, Rep. Estes urged foreign nations to reconsider aligning with outgoing policies that might conflict with future U.S. strategies.

"President Biden, Treasury Secretary Yellen and their outgoing DC allies are trying to pressure several countries," said Rep. Estes, suggesting this could complicate matters for American businesses under new leadership.

The incoming administration plans to focus on trade opportunities with friendly nations, continuing efforts from Trump's previous term.

Tax policy discussions will continue as voters have set a new course for 2025, according to Rep. Estes's perspective on evolving U.S.-foreign relations dynamics during this transition period.
