Rep. Ron Estes of Kansas has shared his views on what he believes President Joe Biden should address in the upcoming State of the Union speech. In an op-ed published in Newsweek, Rep. Estes expressed concerns about border security and economic issues, urging the president to focus on these areas.
"For years President Biden has claimed that the border is secure and the economy is strong. Any deviation from this script now is simply election-year rhetoric," wrote Rep. Estes. He emphasized that Americans are aware of the real state of affairs and can distinguish between fact and fiction.
In his op-ed titled "GOP Rep: Here's What I Wish Biden Would Say in State of the Union," Rep. Estes outlined specific points he hopes President Biden will cover, particularly regarding national security and fiscal responsibility.
Rep. Estes criticized current policies, stating, "It's evident to anyone who hears the news that my policies, which have allowed millions of people to invade the United States, have failed." He also mentioned a recent tragic incident involving a 22-year-old nursing student named Laken Riley as an example of crime related to immigration issues.
He urged President Biden to take tangible actions by reversing executive orders that weakened border security and reimplementing previous administration policies like Remain in Mexico.
Regarding fiscal matters, Rep. Estes highlighted America's growing debt crisis: "America's debt stands at $34.5 trillion." He called for reducing discretionary spending and addressing automatic spending programs such as Social Security and Medicare to ensure their sustainability.
Rep. Estes concluded by expressing hope for a plan from President Biden to tackle these issues effectively while acknowledging skepticism about hearing what he outlined: "If past behavior is an indicator of future behavior, I suspect we will hear the near opposite."
