Rep. Ron Estes, a Republican from Kansas, cast his vote in favor of Rep. Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. Johnson secured unanimous support from Republicans with 220 votes.
"Republicans united behind our colleague Mike Johnson and we're ready to get to work for the American people – reducing federal spending, supporting our ally Israel, holding the Biden administration accountable and securing the southern border," said Rep. Estes. "The process to elect a new Speaker was difficult at times, but I'm confident that we’ve elected an excellent Speaker in Mike Johnson and that he will lead the People's House successfully through these challenging times."
Previously, Rep. Estes supported Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan from Ohio three times on the House floor last week. He also nominated Kevin Hern, Chair of the Republican Study Committee from Oklahoma, during a House Republican Conference meeting yesterday. Throughout this process, Estes has consistently backed conservative Republicans for the role of Speaker.
