Cost of college went up for non-resident students at Wichita State University

In-state tuition and fees fell 1.9 percent for 2018-19 at Wichita State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kansas residents paid $8,270 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $162 less than the $8,432 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 111 percent more than residents this year, or $17,452. Their price tag grew 0.4 percent from $17,390 in 2017-18.

About 79 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kansas residents. And about 20 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 89 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,178 students received grants or scholarships totaling $7.1 million and 791 students took out student loans totaling more than $6.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (15,778), 7,634 students used grants or scholarships totaling $36.3 million, and 5,713 students took out $43.7 million in federal student loans.
