Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Ranking Member Richard Blumenthal has urged President Donald Trump to intervene in what he describes as Elon Musk's takeover of the U.S. Treasury's payment system. The system reportedly contains sensitive personal information of veterans, surviving spouses, and their families, including monthly disability compensation amounts, home addresses, and bank account numbers.

Blumenthal expressed concerns about the implications of this situation for veterans and their families who receive compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). "Elon Musk’s illegal takeover of the Treasury’s payment systems has serious implications for veterans and their families receiving compensation from VA," Blumenthal stated. He emphasized that with this control, Musk could access veterans' personal data such as residence details, banking information, and VA benefits amounts.

"It is reprehensible an unelected billionaire can freely access veterans’ sensitive and personal information," Blumenthal continued. He called on President Trump to take immediate action to halt this development and safeguard veterans' benefits and privacy. "Veterans risked their lives to defend this country, and they deserve more than to have unaccountable billionaires playing with the benefits they earned and rely on."

The statement underscores ongoing concerns about data privacy and security for individuals who have served in the military.
