The office of Congressman Ron Estes (R-Kansas) has announced the winners of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The announcement took place on April 20 during a reception and awards ceremony at Mark Arts in Wichita. This annual competition, known as "An Artistic Discovery," is hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives for high school students across each congressional district. The first-place artwork is displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., for about one year.

Rep. Estes, a supporter of young artists in Kansas' 4th Congressional District, also organized an art exhibit to showcase and celebrate all participants' talents. This year saw 385 entries from 257 students across 24 high schools in six counties within the district.

Due to commitments in the U.S. House, State Rep. Susan Estes, wife of Rep. Ron Estes, presented the awards to this year's winners.

"This is the largest number of participants that we've ever had, and the caliber of their work is phenomenal," stated Rep. Estes regarding this year's event. "I'm excited to see Haley's pencil drawing in the Capitol complex and appreciate all of the students, faculty and family who participated and encouraged the students in this year's competition."

Haley Wyckoff from Arkansas City High School won first place with her pencil drawing titled "Home." She received a cash prize sponsored by Marc and Erin Mason. Cash prizes were also awarded to second-place winner Clara Busenitz from Berean Academy for her watercolor piece "Potential," and third-place winner Melian Miller from Wichita High School East for her pastel work "How Things Change," courtesy of Craig and Dalene Nelson.

A jury comprising Jim Clements (oil painter), Steve Rasmussen (photographer), and Laura Taylor (exhibitions and engagement director at Mark Arts) selected the winners.

In addition to these top awards, twelve other students received Honorable Mentions, while ten students were recognized as best in their respective mediums.
