On Sept. 5, Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) visited several locations in Kingman and Harper Counties to engage with local residents and businesses. His tour included stops at Flat Ridge Wind Farm, Horizons Anthony Child Advocacy Center, and Harper Industries.
"It's always encouraging to meet with Kansans in rural parts of our state to hear about the good work that's going on to strengthen our communities, help families and encourage job growth," said Rep. Estes.
At Flat Ridge Wind Farm, Rep. Estes observed Blattner Energy installing a blade on one of the wind turbines under construction. He discussed with the team their efforts and how wind energy fits into a comprehensive energy policy for Kansas. He also addressed property rights and community collaboration essential for such projects.
During his visit to Horizons Anthony Child Advocacy Center, Rep. Estes met with local law enforcement and community partners to discuss child advocacy issues. Despite the challenging nature of neglect and abuse cases in Kansas, he expressed optimism about the center's efforts in supporting victims and families in Anthony and nearby areas.
At Harper Industries, Rep. Estes noted the company's expansion since his last visit a few years ago but also learned about challenges faced due to expired tax provisions that previously encouraged research and development. He shared insights from his role as chair of the U.S. Innovation Tax Team, highlighting his efforts to reinstate these tax incentives to boost U.S. R&D, job growth, and innovation.
