Ortega Earns First Career KCAC Men's Wrestler Of The Week Nod

In a definite #B1st moment, Friends University freshman Ezavian Ortega (FR/Cannon, Colo. ) has earned his first career KCAC Men's Wrestler of the Week honor, the league office announced today (Jan. 30). Ortega is the first Falcon men's wrestler to receive the award and second overall in the history of the wrestling program (Gianna Moreno).

All KCAC Player of the Week honors are sponsored by Equity Bank.

Ortega not only recorded a big win by fall over (RV) Saint Mary's Freddie Barajas, but was victorious in 52 seconds in the last bout of the night to snap a 21-21 tie and give the Falcons a dramatic 27-21 dual victory over the Spires.

"EZ has been super consistent this year, which can be challenging considering he's a true freshman," said Friends wrestling head coach Aaron Meister. "He is a very dynamic wrestler that puts up a lot of points in his matches and scores bonus points quite often. In the dual against Saint Mary, the team score was tied up and he rose to the occasion by getting a fall to help the team secure the win."

Next up for Ortega and the Falcons is another home dual vs. Avila University Wednesday night (Feb. 1) at 7:30 pm inside the Garvey Center. The men's dual is scheduled to follow the women's dual vs. Avila.
