Jets hang with #4 Northwest

Men's basketball ended their 2 game home stand Saturday afternoon with No. 4 Northwest Missouri visiting Fugate Gymnasium. The Bearcats looked to rebound from their loss against UCO on Thursday and add on to their 3 game win streak over Newman since the Jets joined the MIAA while Newman would try for a perfect homestand after defeating Missouri Western on Thursday.

Despite 3 Jets scoring double figures, Northwest Missouri came on top 74-57 behind 53.1% shooting led by Diego Bernard who would lead all scorers with 23 points.

Newman wouldn't make it easy for the No. 4 Bearcats. The Jets stuck around with NW for most of the game before a late surge would help the Bearcats pull away from the Jets. NU was able to bring it within 7 with under 10 minutes to go but a Daniel Abreu layup and 3 pointer with under 9:30 to play gave Northwest Missouri all of the momentum that would begin a 7-0 run to bring their lead to 17 at the final media timeout.

Stevie Strong led all Jets with 16 points off 50% shooting and Stevie Smith would finish with 14. Sam Somerhalder ended the game with 10.

Newman has started to gel together as of late. They've led for most of the Northeastern State game which they lost 56-64 and stuck around with Rogers State till the very end in a 77-84 loss. Saturday's loss vs Northwest was the Bearcats closest margin of victory this season since their 64-49 victory over Fort Hays State in early December. The Jets had their best team performance just 2 nights ago when they defeated Missouri Western in dominating fashion.
