9 Jets combine for 12 hits in 13-3 thumping of NWOSU

Baseball won its 2nd midweek matchup, this time against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Jets salvaged a week 1 loss vs the Rangers back in February.

Like yesterday, today's game wouldn't reach 9 innings. The Jets offense exploded for 13 runs in 8 innings for the mercy rule win.

9 different Jets would get into the hit column, with Shawn Marquis, Jack Kiser, and Jason Schneider each getting 2 hits in route to 12 Newman hits on the afternoon. Shawn and Dalton Smith led the onslaught with 3 RBI's each. Smith came within a few feet of hitting his 1st home run of the season when he knocked a ball off the left field wall for a 2 run double.

The pitching staff held NWOSU to just 7 hits and 3 runs. Colby Wilson struck out 3 Rangers in 4 innings of work. Ian Lecki came in relief in the 5th inning, striking out a batter in a 9 pitch inning. Justin Durnil pitched 2 inning of relief and wouldn't let a runner on base. Jared Newton pitched the final inning, allowing no runs before the Jets 3 run burst in the bottom of the 8th ended the game.

Ian LeckI earned his 2nd win of the season after coming in relief in the top of the 5th. The Jets took the lead with a 5 run 5th inning to go up 8-3.

Newman moves to 9-7 all time vs NWOSU and 6-2 at home. The win gives the Jets momentum heading in to a big weekend with Missouri Western heading into Wichita for a 3 game MIAA series vs Newman starting on Friday. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
