Jets fall short on the road against the Lions

Women's Basketball traveled to face Missouri Southern. The Lions are sitting at 9-4 in conference play.

The Jets came out ready to play. Newman shot 35.7% from the field and 42.9% from three point land, but the Lions were shooting 47% from the field and 60% from three. Scoring was spread out with a couple of Jets bringing in 3 and 2 points. Even though the Lions could not miss, the Jets held in there and only lost the quarter by 9 points.

Newman's second quarter scoring set them back. They were only able to connect on 3 points, which were all free throws. The Jets were unable to hit a field goal, going 0-12 from the field. The first half came to a close with the Jets losing by 21. The Lions took full advantage of the Jets woes in the 2nd quarter.

Despite the point gap, the Jets never gave in. 3rd quarter scoring from Valerjia Lioukina, Amiya Josey, and Jordon Heckert kept the game within striking distance. The quarter showed some improvement, but not was not enough to cut away at the 21 point lead that the Lions had made in the first half. Newman played even with the Lions throughout the quarter, only losing it 23 to 21 to head into the 4th quarter down 63-40.

The Jets started to lose momentum in the fourth quarter and couldn't put together a run to close the gap which led to a loss on the road to a talented Lions team, who made the NCAA tournament last year.

Amiya Josey lead the Jets with 10 points while bringing in 5 rebounds.

Valerjia Lioukina added 8 points along with 9 rebounds.

Newman is back in action in Pittsburg, KS to face Pitt State on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
